    Summary: In late Oct. 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued several standards of coating and other chemicals, and these standards will take effect since 1 April, 2023.

    In late Oct. 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued several standards which will come into force as of 1 April, 2023. These products involving fluororesin powder coatings, anti-icing coatings, exterior surface coatings used for internal combustion engine, thermoset and thermoplastic powder coatings other chemicals.

    Specifically, the standard HG/T 2006-2022 Thermoset and Thermoplastic Powder Coatings will replace HG/T2006-2006 Thermosetting Powder Coatings. The latter one has been implemented for more than ten years but it fails to meet the market requirements currently for the following problems:

  •       1. The two types of classification, "indoor" and "outdoor", could no longer meet the requirements of the application with the increasing use of the products;
  •
  •       2. The key indexes like salt mist and aging have obviously fallen behind given the higher requirements of downstream users;
  •
  •       3. Foreign countries put forward new requirement for the control of harmful substances such as bisphenol A and organotin in the coating materials closely contacting with human body.
  •

          The original standard does not include thermoplastic powder coatings, but there are a large number of thermoplastic powder coating products in the market. The new standard stipulates the product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marks, packaging and storage of the two types of powder coatings. It is applicable to solid powder coatings composed of resin, pigment, filing, and other additives.

          Overall, the new industry standard will better meet the market requirements and will facilitate the improvement of the product quality, the development and application of the new products. Additionally, the new standard will promote the technology progress of the powder coating industry, and continuously improve the quality of thermoset and thermoplastic powder coatings, which is of great significance to expand the application scope of powder coatings and reduce the pollution of volatile organic compounds.
